Light Products Continue to Gain in Popularity

September 20, 2007/Atlanta/Calorie Control Council -– Consumption of low-calorie foods and beverages has hit an all-time high. According to a new national survey, almost nine out of ten adults (86%, or 194 million) consume low-calorie, sugar-free foods and beverages on a regular basis. Among dieters, that number is even higher, with 96% of dieters using low-calorie, sugar-free foods and beverages. The nationally projectable survey was conducted for the Calorie Control Council.

Not only are more adults using light products, but the number of times low-calorie foods and beverages are being used is also on the rise. Some 49% of those who use low-calorie, sugar-free foods and beverages do so on a daily basis. Among "daily users," these products are consumed more than four times per day, on average. Nearly two-thirds (63%) consume these products three or more times per day.
