Processors are turning to a number of newly available and adaptable fruit choices. While standards such as apples, blueberries, pears, and mangoes are more popular than ever, the choices within these fruit types are expanding.
The big picture of cancer risk reduction hasn’t changed much in decades, and the dietary prescription remains, “increase the proportion of fruits and vegetables in the diet and maintain a healthy body weight.” However, attention increasingly is turning to more specific ingredients.
Experts project that at least 2.5% of US adults follow a strict vegan diet. Interestingly, this figured is dwarfed by rising numbers of consumers who are not on a strict vegan diet—but appear to be looking for new vegan food and drink options.
