One of the most important aspects to losing weight is portion control. When drinking beverages, choose glasses that are tall, not short and wide, as the visual illusion of elongation causes people to think they are pouring less into the shorter glasses. Research at the Food and Brand Lab at the University of Illinois shows that people pour themselves more soda, milk, juice and alcoholic beverages in short wide glasses than into tall, narrow glasses. In the studies, participants poured 42% more liquid into the shorter glasses than into the taller ones, but believed they had poured 23% less. www.foodpsychology.com
