On the Street: Smithfield Facilities Honored with Environment Awards
May 14/Food & Beverage Close-Up -- Some 33 Smithfield Foods Inc. facilities in 18 states have been recognized by the American Meat Institute (AMI) with Environmental MAPS Recognition Awards for their longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship through the organization and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and/or achievement of ISO 14001 certification, the company reported.
"Environmental stewardship is a top priority for Smithfield Foods, as we strive to be a leader in all areas of corporate social responsibility each and every day," said Dennis Treacy, senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief sustainability officer. "This commitment spans our entire organization, and I credit our employees for their hard work in progressing through AMI's Environmental MAPS program to achieve this recognition," he continued.
