August 21/London/Diabetes U.K. -- People with diabetes could keep their blood glucose levels under control by drinking a fruit wine blend of blueberries and blackberries, which according to researchers contains an abundance of beneficial bioactive components.
Scientists from the University of Illinois evaluated the antioxidant, polyphenol, and anthocyanin content of blueberry and blackberry wines, and found that these bioactive compounds inhibit enzymes responsible for carbohydrate absorption and assimilation.
