A new study shows that eating higher amounts of fat is associated with increased daytime sleepiness.
May 10/New York/Huffington Post -- A new study, published in the online supplement of the journal Sleep and to be presented at the annual Sleep 2013 conference, shows that eating higher amounts of fat is associated with increased daytime sleepiness. Meanwhile, eating higher amounts of carbohydrates is associated with increased alertness.
"Excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue are very prevalent in the modern world and on the rise," study researcher Dr. Alexandros Vgontzas, M.D., a professor of psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine, said in a statement. "It appears that a diet high in fat decreases alertness acutely, and this may have an impact on an individual’s ability to function and also public safety."
