This may come to you as a surprise, but I could dance in my day. Much of it came in the form of country line dancing, but now and then I would spin off into a grand jitterbug or controlled foxtrot.
My mother liked to dance, my grandmother, too. I do recall a regretful and embarrassing moment when once I was a teen-aged boy at a family wedding, my dear grandmother asked me dance and I told her no. Looking back on this, it's a deed I would take back a thousand times, but alas, I did tell her no. And so, she walked away and then returned with a plate of peel and eat shrimp.
She sat next to me in silence and offered me none.

From that evening, my study of dance increased ten-fold. I was a committed student with no mentor, which was fine. I managed. I tapped into the evening and then cha-cha'd deep into the night. I once waltzed 'til dawn.

And then, one day, I woke up and I was good at dancing.

So, I went to visit my grandmother, who at that point did not walk as well as she once had. I sat at her dining room table, and asked her to dance. She looked at me with a scowl, disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a plate of peel and eat shrimp. She placed it on the table and sat down in silence. After a minute or so, she turned to me and said, "Do you mind if we have something to eat first?"
