Prepared Foods' 18th Annual Spirit of Innovation Awards

Let’s face it. It’s been challenging to find venues to see and taste today’s new food and beverage products. Our nation’s pandemic has limited traditional outlets to track and explore these Innovations

Even so, Prepared Foods is talking new products and honoring nine food and beverage companies for their excellence in consumer insights, R&D teamwork, cross-functional execution and overall innovation. This year we’ll highlight six category winners (pictured below) and three additional honorable mentions in Prepared Foods’ 18th annual Spirit of Innovation  Awards (SOI) Ceremony

2019-2020 SPIRIT OF INNOVATION AWARD HONOREES

New Foodservice Product / Back of House: Marco's Adovada Sauce, Ready Foods

Marco's Adovada Sauce is used as a marinade for meats, a braising sauce, a finishing sauce with roasted vegetables and even slathered on a pizza instead of tomato sauce. Restaurants appreciate this authentic Spanish sauce, which is a time saver in back-of-house operations.

New Retail Food: Green Giant Cauliflower Breadsticks, B&G Foods Inc.

Green Giant has been creating innovative “Veggie Swap-Ins” for nearly four years, and saw an opportunity to expand into a completely new category: frozen bread. There are very limited gluten-free breadstick options available on the market, let alone ones that also contain vegetables.

Editor’s Choice / Most Innovative: Mind Blown Coconut Shrimp, Plant Based Seafood Co.

The Plant Based Seafood Co.’s Mind Blown Coconut Shrimp helps consumers add more plants to their diets and enjoy their favorite seafood without any sacrifice. Made with konjac root, this plant-based “shrimp” also addresses the many environmental issues involved with fishing and ocean health.

New Retail Beverage: KÖE Shelf Stable Organic Kombucha, Stratus Group LLC

Kombucha doesn’t have to have a vinegar taste. KOE Organic Kombucha has billions of live probiotic cultures to support immune health as well as on-trend, natural fruit flavors for appealing taste. A new formula has just 9g sugar and 35 calories per 12 ounces.

New Alternative Channel Product: Lobster Salad Sensations, King and Prince Seafood Corp.

King and Prince Lobster Salad Sensations addresses market needs for convenience, food safety and labor shortages by providing a premium ready-to-eat seafood salad. Lobster Salad Sensations is ready to eat and packaged in a convenient 2lb. pouch. Operators simply thaw, scoop and serve. It is ready to go with seasonings, mayo-base and the added crunch of celery.

New Foodservice Product / Front of House: Tyson Crispy Thigh Strips, Tyson Foodservice

This is a boneless, skinless whole muscle chicken thigh uniquely cut with a patented process that looks and eat like a bone-in wing, giving consumers the tender juicy taste of wings--without the bone. It creates a wow for consumers once they pick up the product and experience it for themselves.
