Major food companies have committed to wholesale changes in ingredient sourcing, which has disrupted supply chains and created acute frustration along with rare opportunity.
Albertsons Companies announced this week that it will be working with its suppliers toward a goal of sourcing only cage-free eggs for its store operations by 2025, based on available supply.
This transition follows a months-long review of White Castle's supply chain, and is an issue the company has been working alongside The Humane Society of the United States to address since last year.
The transition to cage-free eggs has already begun in select markets in the U.S. and Canada and will be completed across its 30,000 North American locations by 2025.
