April 5/New York/MSNBC -- New research shows that the most common food fraud ingredients are olive oil, milk, honey, saffron, orange juice, coffee and apple juice. The report was commissioned by the Department of Homeland Defense. It defines food fraud as any substitution, addition, tampering or misrepresentation of ingredients for profit.
Researchers at the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention compiled a database of all 1,305 academic articles and media reports -- they believe the first of its kind -- to devise the list.
