Milk Drinkers Perform Well on Brain Function Tests

January 30/Orono, Maine/University of Maine -- New research has found that those who drink at least one glass of milk every day score higher on memory and brain function tests. Researchers with the University of Maine put 900 men and women through a series of tests that evaluated eight different measures of mental performance including visual-spatial, verbal, and working memory. They found that those who had the highest intake of the dairy beverage were five times less likely to fail compared to those who did not partake. An 8z. glass contains key nutrients for health, including calcium and vitamin D. Vitamin D in particular has been shown to keep older adults mentally agile. Milk drinkers may also have a more healthful lifestyle overall, which decreases the risk of mental decline.
