The federal government is moving to formally recognize marijuana’s accepted medical use and accelerate its rescheduling from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act. This shift is based on FDA, HHS and NIH findings showing credible scientific support for marijuana’s use in treating pain, nausea, vomiting and anorexia related to medical conditions.

The actions are the first results from the agency’s ongoing analysis of its portfolio of over 250 food Standards of Identity (SOI) to make sure they are useful, relevant and serve consumers in the best possible way.
FDA deputy commissioner for Human Foods commits to fulfilling vision of proposed program

Earlier this year, US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert M. Califf, M.D. laid out a bold vision to transform the agency's human foods enterprise. I am thrilled to have joined the FDA last month as the first Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods to help make this vision a reality.
The FDA considers the term “natural” to mean that nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added to, a food that would not normally be expected to be in that food.

The US Food and Drug Administration launched an initiative to help consumers use the new Nutrition Facts label that appears on packaged foods to maintain healthy dietary practices.
As of December 27, 2019, organic certified flavors will be required in all organic food and beverage products, unless the flavor is not commercially available as organic.
