The European Union will scrap dozens of "absurd" draft laws this month under plans to simplify its legal framework, Jose Manuel Barroso, the European Commission president, said in an interview. "The important thing is to change the culture of the organization," he told the Financial Times.

The main targets will be laws such as those concerning food labeling and sales promotions. More decisions will be left to member states.
