Research compiled by Aramark finds that, despite weighing more than they ever have before, Americans dieted less in 2005. The national survey found 62% of adults saying they are not on a diet, compared with 57% in 2004. The research was part of Aramark's Nutritional DiningStyles research and found Americans are adjusting their preferences when eating away from home. Despite a third-place finish in 2004, time and convenience led as the prime motivator this year, surpassing variety for the first time. Nutritional interest garnered “health consciousness” the fourth spot.
The survey found adults consume more than 5.6 meals away from home each week, with breakfasts showing the largest gain in 2005, rising nearly 20% from the previous year.
