BASF Patenting Plant Biotech

October 19/New Delhi, India/Indian Patents News -- BASF Plant Science GmbH filed patent application for plants having increased yield-related traits and a method for making the same. The inventors are Reuzeau Christophe, Sanz Molinero Ana Isabel, Frankard Valerie, Salom Ramon Serrano and Mulet Salort Jose Miguel.

BASF Plant Science GmbH filed the patent application on April 9. The patent application number is 2001/CHENP/2010 A. The international classification number is C12N15/82.

According to the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, "The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for increasing various plant yield-related traits by increasing expression in a plant of a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide selected from the group consisting of: GRF polypeptide, RAAl-like polypeptide, SYR polypeptide, ARKL polypeptide, and YTP polypeptide. The present invention also concerns plants having increased expression of a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide selected from the group consisting of: GRF polypeptide, RAAl-like polypeptide, SYR polypeptide, ARKL polypeptide, and YTP polypeptide, which plants have increased yield-related traits relative to control plants. The invention also provides constructs useful in the methods of the invention."

BASF Plant Science GmbH engages in plant biotechnology. The company focuses on the optimization of crops for agriculture, renewable raw materials, and nutrition.
