The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) announced that Dr. James W. Lamkey is the recipient of the 2019 Meat Processing Award. The award is sponsored by Smithfield Foods, Inc. Dr. Lamkey will be honored on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at a special awards banquet during the AMSA 72nd Reciprocal Meat Conference in Loveland, Colo.

Dr. James Lamkey’s impressive career-long record of scientific and technical excellence has truly enhanced, expanded, and progressed the meat industry. He is known best for the extra effort and pride that he demonstrates on a daily basis in meat science, and his unfaltering devotion to the industry. His passion for our industry truly embodies the spirit of the AMSA Meat Processing Award.

Dr. Lamkey has been a champion and advocate for the industry. Throughout his career, he has been a selfless and tireless leader in promoting meat science by continually driving home the point that we own the future of our industry. He firmly believes that keeping the meat industry strong and prosperous depends not only on what we as leaders do today but also how we prepare others to become the leaders of tomorrow as the next generation meat scientists. Dr. Lamkey has been an active and highly involved member of AMSA since 1982.

Dr. Lamkey is currently a technical sales manager at Givaudan. He has stayed close to academia, serving as an adjunct at Pennsylvania State University and being a member of graduate committees at the University of Delaware and Rutgers. Jim started his industry career at FMC Corporation and has held many leadership roles within the industry, always focusing on meat and processed meat segments.

Dr. Lamkey is an alumnus of Cornell University and the University of Nebraska. He held academic positions at the University of Florida and Oklahoma State University. He is also a Veteran having served with the US Army Veterinary Corps as a food inspection specialist.
