Keynote Address: Bringing R&D Close to the Consumer – Local Consumer Centric Innovation Driven by Global Science and Technology
At a time when many companies have scaled back investment in original R&D facilities and personnel, Nestlé SA has invested $53 million in a next-generation global Product Technology Center (PTC) for frozen and chilled foods research in Solon, Ohio. The 144,000-sq.-ft. facility (complete with pilot plant) opens this summer as home to more than 100 chefs, food scientists, nutritionists and operations experts. Leading Nestlé’s new global PTC is Director Sean Westcott, a 24-year industry veteran whose held global innovation roles within Nestlé since 2006.
The facility will serve Nestlé business units worldwide along with such well-known brands as STOUFFER’S® and LEAN CUISINE® prepared meals and snacks, HOT POCKETS® and LEAN POCKETS® brand sandwiches, BUITONI® refrigerated pastas and sauces; NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® refrigerated (and in test, frozen) cookie dough, as well as the DIGIORNO®, CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN® TOMBSTONE® and JACK’S® brands of frozen pizza. Come hear Sean share his insights about an operation meant to combine cutting-edge innovation with deep awareness of consumer needs and preferences.
