Of course, oils are not exclusively purchased by consumers. In fact, one snack manufacturer is attempting to boost the nutritional aspects of its line—courtesy of an oil.
PepsiCo/Frito-Lay has switched to using omega-9 canola oil for such products as Lays potato chips, Ruffles and Doritos. As Steven James, director of strategic sourcing for PepsiCo, explains, the oil “has a great set of nutritionals; it has zero trans fats and very low saturated fats, so that’s a great set of pedigrees.”
