June 6/Cranbury, N.J./PRNewswire -- Innophos Holdings has received regulatory approval from Health Canada to sell Cal-Rise into Canadian markets for use in food products.

Cal-Rise is a slow-acting, calcium-based chemical leavening agent, designed to reduce overall sodium content in baked goods, while maintaining the same taste profile and functionality the baking industry has come to expect from traditional sodium based leavenings.

"With Cal-Rise, we are able to offer an excellent solution for baked good producers to economically reduce sodium content without affecting the consumer's perception of taste," commented Birkin Weith, business manager of leavening products at Innophos. "We are excited about the acceptance of this product in Canada, which allows us to introduce Cal-Rise® to yet another market as a valuable solution to sodium reduction efforts."

Cal-Rise has been commercialized in over 20 new products in 2011 alone across several geographies including the U.S., Europe, and Asia Pacific, covering a diverse product range including baking powders, pancakes, waffles, cakes mixes, tortillas and crackers.
