Since its start in late 2019, the Upcycled Food Association (UFA) has grown to include more than 200 members in 20 countries worldwide. And since introducing Upcycled Certified audit and logo program in mid-2021, UFA says that as many as 141 products have been officially registered and represent more than 703 million pounds of food waste that’s been saved. Not surprisingly, Whole Foods even named upcycling as one of its top 10 trends for 2021.
This spring, UFA even hosted its own Natural Products Expo West booth and showcased dozens of branded, certified products across multiple product categories. Listen in as Prepared Foods Chief Editor Bob Garrison talks to UFA Chief Executive Officer Turner Wyatt about UFA’s start, its third-party certification program, upcycled food ingredients, new products and more.
