Bananas flavored with the hint of another fruit could help Chiquita become the Starbucks of the produce world. At least that is what Chiquita's CEO Fernando Aguirre hopes.

Aguirre says Chiquita has taken its bananas to the research lab as part of an effort to make the fruit more appealing to consumers.

It will also make the fruit more expensive.

Citing competition reasons, the company is not revealing the flavors it is researching.

Chiquita is also keeping mum on how different sorts of bananas would be created, other than to say the fruit would not be genetically modified.

The company hopes to test some of its new products in the U.S. or Europe within a year.
