Regardless of the butter debate, U.S. consumers have an affinity for butter. It’s been reported that the average American eats nearly 23 sticks of butter a year and in 2013 they spent $2 billion on the fat-laden ingredient. According to the American Butter Institute, Americans have been increasing their butter intake and consumption reached 5.6 pounds a year in 2012 versus 4.1 pounds in 1997.

Additionally, grass-fed butter is en vogue as a result of the Bulletproof Coffee craze. Driven by the vegan lifestyle and dietary restrictions, nut butters also are proliferating.
