Montmorency tart cherries are gaining recognition as a natural source of melatonin

In emerging research, U.K. researchers found that 20 adults who drank two glasses of tart cherry juice each day for a week, slept about 40 minutes longer on average and had up to a 6% increase in sleep efficiency.
A pilot study conducted at the University of Rochester Medical Center found that drinking two 8oz servings of tart cherry juice daily for two weeks helped reduce the time spent awake after going to sleep among a group of 15 volunteers who self-reported results. More research is needed.
