Our Little Rebellion Crop Art

The piece is cut in a field of non-GMO corn from which the brand harvests its snack ingredients for its line of PopCorners®, Bean Crips™ and Crinkles

Our Little Rebellion™, a family of Non-GMO Project Verified popped snacks that prove health and taste can coexist, plowed the way for a new movement to inspire an American revolution in support of non-GMO corn. In honor of Non-GMO Month in October, the brand joined forces with the Non-GMO Project to reveal its crusade via a crop art piece, boldly asking US shoppers to “Join the Corn Revolution.” Cut in a field of non-GMO corn from which the brand actually harvests its snack ingredients for its line of PopCorners®, Bean Crips™ and Crinkles™, the agricultural billboard was created to advance awareness about the importance of supporting US-grown, non-GMO corn in everything from snacks to breakfast.

Corn is the highest risk crop to contain GMOs, and only approximately eight percent of corn acreage in the US is currently non-GMO, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, though it is one of the most abundant ingredients used in packaged foods. Leading the charge towards transparently sourced, US-grown and Non-GMO Project Verified corn, Our Little Rebellion has created a new supply of non-GMO corn by partnering with 59 small-scale family farmers throughout Nebraska. The process of transitioning back to farming with non-GMO seeds creates a more sustainable business model for US family farmers that wouldn’t otherwise be possible with conventional farming methods. In addition, the new supply of non-GMO corn Our Little Rebellion has pioneered amplifies the production of Non-GMO Project Verified corn, making it more widely available to food and beverage manufacturers across the US to create products that consumers can feel good about.

“Corn is the one of the most abundant crops in the US but it’s primarily available in genetically modified form,” says Paul Nardone, Chief Executive Officer at BFY Brands, the parent company of Our Little Rebellion. “We have a vision to inspire action among U.S. shoppers everywhere to make the conscious decision to purchase snacks made with non-GMO ingredients so they can confidently consume foods without worry. We’re leading the charge for making non-GMO ingredients like corn available in a scaled capacity so shoppers have more non-GMO options in the grocery aisles.”

Located in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, the crop art spans approximately 8.5 acres and took more than a week to complete. Featuring prominent lettering stating, “Join the Corn Revolution,” the crop art directs viewers to visit PopCorners.com to learn about the revolution, sign up to join the cause, learn about the prevalence of GMOs in the US and around the world, and view a video to meet the farmer and family where the crop art was created. Taking the corn revolution a step further, viewers can also access tips from the Non-GMO Project at www.livingnongmo.org.

“At the Non-GMO Project, we’re committed to educating consumers and providing verified non-GMO choices,” says Courtney Pineau, Associate Director of the Non-GMO Project. “We are excited about Our Little Rebellion’s creative approach to sparking the conversation about non-GMO corn production and the importance of making it more widely accessible.”

The crop art was created in a non-GMO corn field owned and operated by family farmer, Jim McGowen, one of 59 non-GMO small-scale farms that collectively supply 20 million pounds of corn used in Our Little Rebellion’s supply chain to create its delicious popped snacks.

To learn more about joining the revolution and to receive additional details about GMOs, see video and images of the crop art, or get deals and discounts, visit www.PopCorners.com.

The polarizing crop art visual was coordinated through Town Square Productions.

Our Little Rebellion’s full portfolio of snacks are Non-GMO Project Verified, Certified Gluten Free and OU Kosher. All snacks are available at conventional retailers, natural food stores, and club and convenience channels throughout the US, as well as online retailers.
