Old El Paso, a division of General Mills, is enhancing its portfolio of shells and tortillas, seasonings, dinner kits and sauces with the introduction of Old El Paso Shredded Cheese in a partnership it has entered with Crystal Farms, a dairy brand. The new product line combines Old El Paso’s strong presence in the Mexican food category with the growing popularity of shredded cheese.

Old El Paso’s shredded cheese varieties give retailers a new asset to satisfy consumers with popular flavor options, with six flavors:

According to Nielsen, shredded cheese, and specifically Mexican shredded cheese, has shown significant growth:

• One-third of cheese sales are shreds and has grown 12% since 2015
• Mexican blends represent nearly 25% of all shred volume sold in the US.
• Mexican blends were the growth leader for shreds in 2018, up more than 11% from 2017
