In creating a new line of fresh-frozen entrees, Nestle's (Vevey, Switzerland) Stouffer's brand looked to a somewhat unusual source for inspiration.

Inspired by chefs from wellness spas across America, the Lean Cuisine meals also feature a new identity, of a sort. Stouffer's Lean Cuisine is augmented by the term “Spa Cuisine” on the packaging.

As for the contents, the entrées feature fiber-rich brown or wild rice, or whole-wheat pasta, “unusual vegetable combinations” and premium lean protein choices. The line also boasts a gourmet-like range of varieties, including wild salmon in basil sauce and honey-roasted pork in a ruby-dried cherry and red wine sauce. Seasoning blends and upscale ingredients also include lemongrass, coconut, peanut sauce, garlic, orzo pasta, dried cherries, snap peas and yellow carrots.
