In a first for the U.S., global positioning system (GPS) technology will be implemented into a promotion from the Coca-Cola Company (Atlanta).
According to the company, the specially designed, regular-sized can is a GPS transponder and cell phone. Consumers who find one of the cans in specially marked 12-, 18-, 20- or 24-packs press a button to activate it, volunteer to participate and have a prize delivered to them, wherever they may be. Prizes include a 2005 Chevy Equinox, home entertainment systems and cash.
Furthermore, once a winning can has been found and activated, a visit to www.unexpectedsummer. com allows tracking of the can. After the cell phone call has been made, the Coke Unexpected Summer Search Team mobilizes, tracks the consumer and delivers the prize. Before July 12, more than 100 of the cans will be distributed across the country.
