November 1/Baltimore/FDA -- People over 40 years old may want to avoid black licorice.

The Food and Drug Administration issued a new warning that says people over 40 should be careful about eating too much of it because it can cause potassium levels to tank.

The administration said it applies to people who eat more than 2oz. of the candy every day for two weeks.

The FDA said there is a sweetening compound in the candy that is derived from licorice root that causes the problem.
