Consumers Agree that Turkey is Healthier Protein Alternative

Technomic Poultry Report: Turkey-based substitutes ordered more than chicken-based substitutes across dayparts

Diners are increasingly looking for menu alternatives. According to Technomic’s 2015 Center of the Plate: Poultry Consumer Trend Report, 61% agree that turkey (vs. only 59% for chicken) is healthier than beef or pork. In addition, more consumers prefer to order turkey-based substitutes such as turkey burgers and turkey bacon for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as these products tend to be more familiar to diners than chicken-based substitutes. 

Butterball Foodservice offers a wide variety of products to help chefs meet this growing demand, including Turkey Bacon, Turkey Breast Filets, Turkey Burgers, Turkey Thigh Roast and Turkey Breakfast Sausage Patties. • Thai Turkey and Crispy Vegetables Wrap—Warm, shredded turkey (instead of pork), peanut sauce and crisp veggies wrapped in a flour tortilla.

• Hawaiian Turkey Burger—Turkey burger (instead of beef), grilled pineapple, fresh cucumber, arugula, green onion and sweet soy sauce on a buttery toasted bun.

• Classic Caesar Salad—Turkey medallions (in place of chicken), grilled romaine lettuce, shaved Parmesan cheese and croutons with a classic Caesar dressing.
