Nexira’s purified damar gum earns FEMA GRAS approval

Nexira Inc. received FEMA GRAS status for purified damar gum used as a flavor stabilizer in US applications. 

Damar gum is a unique, natural stabilizer for the flavor and beverage industries—thanks to its plant-based origin, functional properties, ease of use and resistance to oxidation. Nexira will market purified damar gum under the DAMAR-EZ™ brand and showcase the product at this year’s IFT Food Expo in Chicago, at booth #712.

Damar gum is a natural exudate from the Shorea javanica tree in the forests of Southeast Asia. Harvesting of damar gum aligns with Nexira’s environmental sustainability approach to sourcing. That’s because Nexira preserves thre Shorea trees, which play an important role in maintaining tropical forests. Plus, damar gums provides a reliable source of income to local farmers engaged in agro-forestry. Nexira secures the supply chain from raw material sourcing to production of the purified damar gum in France.
