Understanding the Growth Behind Prepared and Specialty Foods

Chris DuBois, Senior Vice President, IRI®

WHAT:
IRI’s Chris DuBois will join industry leaders at the Prepared Foods R&D Applications Seminar and present a session titled “Understanding the Growth Behind Prepared and Specialty Foods.” DuBois will share insight on what grocery retailers can do to meet consumers’ desire for fast, fresh and healthy food options that are affordably priced. He also will highlight key concepts, including which product claims are gaining critical mass and their contribution to overall growth in meat, produce and other departments; which emerging claims are growing quickly and will likely accelerate in the near future; and the value of driving market and merchandising efforts to fully leverage this trend and how it impacts retailers’ business.

WHY:
Grocery stores have considerably changed the options available for quick, on-the-run meals, and prepared and specialty foods now go far beyond the deli counter, offering consumers a wide array of choices. Prepared and specialty foods are growing at an incredible 10 percent per year, resulting in $11 billion in annual sales. As grocery stores continue exploring their options within prepared and specialty foods, this category is poised for rapid growth in the future.
