Prayon, a world leader in phosphate chemistry, will build a new factory and boost the company’s production of food grade sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP). This project is part of Prayon's growth strategy in several sectors (food additives, water treatment, industrial applications), and it will support the group's development worldwide.
This unit of 10 kt will increase the company's production capacity and strengthen Prayon's position in the food additives sector, among others. It will enable Prayon to meet growing customer demand for food applications additives as well as the increasing internal needs for the production of core ingredients such as Carfosel™ (for meat and seafood) and Kasomel™ (for cheese).
At this stage, the site of Engis, Belgium, was chosen to build the new plant. It will supplement the current SHMP production unit in Les Roches-de-Condrieu (France) and will be operational by 2023.
With more than a century of industrial experience, the Belgium-based Prayon Group is a worldwide leader in phosphate chemistry. The Prayon Group is owned jointly by OCP SA. and Société régionale d’Investissement de Wallonie (SRIW). With manufacturing operations in Belgium, France, and the United States, Prayon serves a global customer base.
Prayon manufactures and markets an extensive range of purified phosphoric acids, phosphate salts and fluorine products. The Prayon products are used in food (bakery, meat, processed cheese, fish and seafood, cereals, fruit and vegetables), drinks, healthcare products (toothpaste, oral hygiene products and excipients), horticulture and a wide range of industrial applications (paper, ceramics, glass, metal). The Prayon wet processes for phosphoric acid production are marketed throughout the world and are used to produce over 50% of the world's merchant grade phosphoric acid.
