Doritos Enters Protein Snack Segment
New tortilla-style chips deliver 10g protein per serving using dairy-based casein

PepsiCo Foods US will introduce Doritos Protein tortilla-style chips in March, delivering 10g of protein per one-ounce serving. A single-serve format with 17g of protein is expected to roll out later this year.
The product will be available in Nacho Cheese and Sweet & Tangy BBQ. Formulated with dairy-based protein (casein), the chips are free of artificial colors and flavors. The company said the formulation maintains the brand’s standard flavor and texture profile while increasing protein content.
According to PepsiCo, 70% of consumers express interest in protein in salty snacks, reflecting broader demand for functional ingredients. The launch positions Doritos within the growing protein snack segment by integrating added protein into a mainstream, mass-market chip format rather than introducing a separate better-for-you sub-brand.
For product developers, the move highlights continued protein fortification of traditional snack categories and the use of dairy proteins to support flavor delivery and texture retention in extruded chip applications.
