Technomic has identified five themes that will define consumer foodservice behavior this year, and presented them at Technomic's annual Consumer Insights Planning Program meeting, January 11-12, 2017 in Newport Beach, California. A comprehensive analysis of evolving consumer lifestyles paired with exclusive industry, menu, operator, and consumer data signals that 2017 will see an accelerated fragmentation of consumer attitudes and purchase drivers.  

From my vantage point, several food and beverage industry trends will continue to roll through 2017, while a handful of scattered ideas find fertile ground and growth  potential.

Expect to see a rise in both “slow” and “fast” claims, as well as more products designed to help people unwind before bedtime, sleep better and restore the body while they rest

Disruption is more important than ever before as curated information “bubbles” leave consumers with a lack of diverse content and viewpoints.
