Keurig, the maker of single-cup coffee machines sitting on millions of kitchen counters, agreed to sell itself Monday for almost $14 billion to JAB Holding Co., a private company with a growing java business.

The specialty line of products draws upon the Green Mountain Coffee heritage as a small-batch roaster and coffee shop combined with the ease and simplicity of the Keurig hot brewing system, the company says.

The system allows consumers to freshly make cold sparkling and still beverages at home at the push of a button, including favorites from The Coca-Cola Company and Dr Pepper Snapple Group.

The K-cups, as the pods are known, will have a broth inside that can be brewed over a packet of dry pasta and a vegetable blend garnish.
