• Fortitech Inc. (Schenectady, N.Y.) named Kim A. Evans as manager of human resources for its global offices in the U.S., Europe, South America, Mexico and Asia Pacific.

  • RFI Ingredients (Blauvelt, N.Y.) is acquiring Beyond Organic Ingredients (West Palm Beach, Fla.).

  • Sargento Foods Inc. (Plymouth, Wis.) promoted Karri Neils to senior vice president—human resources. In addition, the company announced plans to restructure its logistics department to increase efficiency, consolidating its customer service personnel into one working unit. Kathy Ott, new customer service manager, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the service team.

  • Contrary to certain early reports, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not find purified ricin in two baby food jars involved in an apparent tampering case in Irvine, Calif. What problems there were seem to have been confined to the Irvine area. In analyzing the product, the FDA found what appear to be ground-up remnants of castor beans.

  • Archer Daniels Midland Co. (Decatur, Ill.) and Johnson Cooperative Grain Co. Inc. (Johnson, Kan.) have formed a joint venture. Skyland Grain will operate the local grain, agronomy and petroleum divisions of the two companies, with Tom Ryan serving as general manager.

  • Bain Capital (Boston) has completed its acquisition of the North American specialty phosphates business of Rhodia (Cranbury, N.J.). Under the new ownership, the phosphates business will be an independent business under a new corporate name—Innophos Inc., which will be operated by the same management team that oversaw the business under Rhodia's ownership. Randy Gress will serve as CEO, and the company will be headquartered in Cranbury.

  • A.M. Todd Co. (Montgomeryville, Pa.) named John W. Finley chief technical officer.

  • The international food and beverage show SIAL Montreal is scheduled for April 13-15, 2005 in Montreal, Quebec. The show will feature national pavilions from around the world, as well as regional pavilions from Canada's provinces.

  • U.S. Flavors & Fragrances (Wauconda, Ill.) completed the sale of its fragrance business to Orchicia, a wholly owned subsidiary of FlavorChem (Downers Grove, Ill.).
