Hitting the Shelves: Frozen Fruit -- April 2008
It is no secret that many consumers are trying to incorporate more fruits into their daily diet in response to dietary recommendations from several sources and increased media attention toward the nutritional benefits associated with fruit. As a result, the use of fruit is continuing to migrate into new food categories, with the latest being the Fruit Inspirations line of frozen meals launched by Heinz under the Weight Watchers Smart Ones brand.
The line includes Orange Sesame Chicken, Pineapple Beef Teriyaki, Honey Mango Barbeque Chicken and Cranberry Turkey Medallions. According to MyPyramid and U.S. Dietary Guidelines, consumers on a 2,000-calorie diet should eat two cups of fruit and two-and-a-half cups of vegetables per day.
