Lutein awareness is growing among American consumers, according to a new consumer market study involving 2,000 U.S. adults. 61.2% are aware of the nutrient, up 22% since a similar survey in 2001. Consumers are also aware of the beneficial properties of the nutrient, such as eye health and skin health. Nearly one-third of those surveyed indicated they felt it was important for stores to carry foods enriched with lutein. Over one-third (35.4%) also stated they trusted products with branded ingredients; FloraGLO Lutein, a natural ingredient used in hundreds of nutritional and food products worldwide, is produced by Kemin Foods, and is the only patented, purified, crystalline lutein product with GRAS status.
