An oat-based beta-glucan has shown to benefit multiple health aspects.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Article 14 (Commission Regulation [EU] No 1160/2011 of November 14, 2011) expressed that its positive health-claim opinion about oat ß-glucan for cholesterol reduction complies with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. It is suggested that there is a beneficial effect at 3g daily, and the claim is allowed in food or beverage products containing at least 1g per quantified serving. In the U.S., oat ß-glucans have attained GRAS status, also for use in foods and beverages. Beta-glucans are a soluble-fiber polysaccharide that have shown beneficial effect for multiple health aspects, from immune support to infection mitigation, cancer protection and, especially, natural cholesterol reduction.
