Bunge used the annual IFT convention to introduce Non-GMO Project Verified milled corn ingredients and Non-GMO Project Verified oils.

Likewise, the company featured its broader collection of ingredients—including ancient grains, rice, gluten free breadings, and puffed and expanded snacks, for which the company also is pursuing Non-GMO Project Verification.

One of Bunge’s culinary innovators, Chef Zach Hovan served samples from the company’s food truck. These offerings included a Ropa Vieja Polenta Cake made with Non-GMO Project Verified cornmeal and Whole Harvest expeller-pressed canola oil.

“Market research suggests 40% of consumers are actively managing consumption of GMO foods in their daily diets,” says Mark Stavro, senior director of marketing for North America. “Our recently expanded non-GMO offerings will create business opportunities for our customers by allowing them to extend non-GMO options to their customers in product categories where it is in high-demand, while still maintaining the high quality they have come to expect of Bunge ingredients.”

Currently, Bunge is the only major supplier to offer non-GMO corn ingredients on a scale that makes them accessible to major brands. This includes grits, meals, flours, and whole grains that can be used across a wide range of packaged foods, including cereals, savory snacks, bakery, batters/breadings, and more.

“We are the only ingredient manufacturer at IFT, or anywhere, with Non-GMO Project Verified corn ingredients and oils ready at a scale that allows our customers to confidently grow key brands to meet non-GMO demand,” said Wade Ellis, vice president and general manager, U.S. Milling.

The company’s Crete, Neb., facility is Non-GMO Project Verified, and its Danville, Ill., facility, the world’s largest dry corn mill, is currently undergoing project verification as well. To support its non-GMO footprint, Bunge has contracted with farmers for non-GMO acres surrounding both facilities.

In addition to milled corn ingredients, Bunge also offers a scalable supply of Non-GMO Project Verified canola and soybean oils, under its Whole Harvest brand. These oils are expeller-pressed and minimally refined, which makes them ideal for clean label applications.

“Many of our customers are seeking verified non-GMO ingredients that are also minimally processed, and our Whole Harvest brand of canola and soybean oils meets this need,” says Anthony Williams, vice president of sales and marketing, Bunge North America. “Our Whole Harvest brand is ‘simply different’; it delivers confidence and transparency through being Non-GMO Project Verified, as well as being expeller-pressed and minimally refined, which helps our customers better leverage the clean label trend across a wide range of food products.”
