New Sports Performance & Recovery Products

A look at new sports performance & recovery products making a debut in August 2020

Orgain Sport Protein Powders
August 7, 2020

Prepared Foods showcases new sports performance and recovery products making a debut in 2020.

Sport Powders

Orgain Inc., Irvine, Calif., entered the sports category with a line of organic, plant-based powders. Varieties include Protein, Energy and Recovery.

“I noticed varied product offerings within the sports nutrition market and knew we could design a more elevated option with unique ingredients that would provide a clean way to aid performance,” said Dr. Andrew Abraham, Orgain founder and CEO.

Orgain’s 30g Organic Sport Protein is a blend of organic, food-based ingredients, including 5g BCAAs to support muscle growth and reduce soreness, tart cherry powder and fermented turmeric powder known to provide anti-inflammatory benefits.

Orgain Sport Energy Powder includes organic beets known for their energizing and anti-inflammatory properties, 80mg caffeine naturally divided from green coffee beans, and is high in vitamin C from organic amla fruit. Orgain Sport Energy also includes ginseng and cordyceps mushroom ingredients.

Orgain’s Sport Recovery Lemonade is for post-workout. It has organic apple cider vinegar for electrolyte replenishment.

Fun Flavors

Dymatize ISO100 Protein Powders
WHERE BREAKFAST MEETS BARBELLS

Dymatize Enterprises LLC, Dallas, partnered with Post Consumer Brands to introduce Dymatize ISO100 protein powders in two new flavors: Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles.

“We are excited to team up with a leader in the sports nutrition industry to bring the taste of the iconic Pebbles cereal brand to athletes,” said Leah Broeders, head of Partnerships & Licensing at Post Consumer Brands. “Dymatize’s commitments to quality and innovation align well with the Pebbles brand. With this collaboration, people will now have the chance to enjoy the unmistakable, classic flavor of Pebbles cereals that they have come to know and love in a different form.”

Officials say ISO100 Pebbles flavors stay true to the healthful nutrition athletes have come to expect—along with hydrolyzed 100% whey protein isolate and 25g of protein per serving.

ISO100 is made from easy digesting, super-fast absorbing hydrolyzed 100% whey protein isolate and has less than 1g of sugar and fat and 2g or less of carbohydrates per serving.

Dymatize is part of BellRing Brands Inc., St. Louis.

Fudge Flavor

Barebells Crunchy Fudge Protein Bar
NEW TASTE TO RAISE THE BAR

Having made its US debut in 2019, Barebells Functional Foods, Venice, Calif., continues its US expansion with a fifth protein bar offering.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of Crunchy Fudge as Barebells continues to expand and grow quickly across the U.S.,” says Ben Jones, CEO. “Since our launch last year, Barebells has been incredibly well received by the masses. We look forward to sharing our best flavor yet as we forge forward with national and international growth plans.”

Jones says Barebells’ Crunchy Fudge Protein Bar contains 20g of protein “with a gooey, soft fudge center and a smooth, milky chocolate outer layer, topped with sprinkles for an extra crunch.” The 1.94oz bar has no added sugar or palm oil.

Additional varieties are White Chocolate Almond, Salty Peanut, Caramel Cashew and Cookies & Cream. Crunchy Fudge can be purchased via online retailers such as Bodybuilding.com and Amazon.com, as well as at select retailers and gyms nationwide.

Barebells Functional Foods was founded in Sweden in 2016.

Protein Power

Ascent Recovery Water

Leprino Performance Brands LLC, doing business as Ascent Protein, said Kroger stores nationwide will carry its Ascent Pre-Workout, Native Fuel Whey Protein, and Recovery Water.

Ascent Pre-Workout contains 150mg of caffeine naturally sourced from coffee fruit extract and 250mg of electrolytes for hydration. Kroger will carry the brand’s Raspberry Lemonade flavor.

Ascent Recovery Water is a water-based beverage with 20g of protein with zero artificial ingredients, added electrolytes for hydration and only 100 calories to help athletes optimally recover post-workout. Kroger will carry Ascent Recovery Water in the Fruit Punch flavor.

One-pound bags of Native Fuel Whey Protein in two flavors—Chocolate and Vanilla Bean—also will be on shelf at Kroger. Ascent’s Whey Protein is a rapidly digesting protein for after a workout.

Natural Approach

2before Blackcurrant Powder
BERRY APPEALING NATURAL BOOST

2Before Performance Nutrition Limited, Auckland, New Zealand, says polyphenols in the company’s  namesake 2before blackcurrant powder make it a “breakthrough natural sports performance enhancer.”

“Everyone wants to advance their potential, and many are now looking to do so through natural, clean food. This product is made from a natural, non-GMO berry and is a category creator for the food first performance market,” says Brendan Vercoe, CEO.

Vercoe says meta-analysis published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition confirms that the polyphenol anthocyanins in 2before blackcurrant powder deliver a significant sports performance improvement (0.45%), higher than the common athlete go-to caffeine (0.41%). Vercoe adds the product’s the brand name reflects the bioavailability profile showing 2before anthocyanins peaking in the bloodstream two hours after consumption.

“It is during this time that the priming mechanism switches on the body’s own cellular defense systems, helping athletes to better prepare and adapt for peak performance and recovery,” he says.

2before is a stable 120mg dose of anthocyanins in a water-soluble berry juice powder that is easily consumed in the shot format pre-activity. 2before is available for purchase online at www.2before.com.
