Excellent Source of Vitamin D
Kellogg Company, Battle Creek, Mich., extended its Rice Krispies brand with Kellogg's Rainbow Krispies that feature a new shape, fruity aroma and as many as six colors. Officials say it Kellogg’s first fruity cereal to provide 20% daily value of vitamin D. It's also made with 8g of whole grains and fortified with nine vitamins and minerals per serving. "When we discovered six in 10 Americans want to add more vitamin D to their diets, we knew infusing this key nutrient into a fun breakfast option would be a great way to solve this need for many of our fans," said Laura Newman, Kellogg senior director of brand marketing.  

Summertime—by the Spoonful
Magic Spoon Inc., New York, N.Y., is known for thinking “outside the box” with limited-edition cereal varieties. Its latest two limited-edition flavors debuting in May are Chocolate Chip Cookie and Oatmeal Cookie. Magic Spoon cereal is keto-friendly, has only 5g net carbs per serving, plus 12-14g complete protein, and no sugar or artificial ingredients. Think Big. Act Small (Mini)
General Mills greeted the new year in a big way—by going small. It announced an initial limited drop of

Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix and REESE’S PUFFS all in new “Minis” sizes. In conjunction, the company also bundled a promotional offer involving branded miniature kitchen items including a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Mini Fridge, Trix Mini Utensil Set and a REESE’S PUFFS Mini Muffin Mold. “After we saw such a positive reaction with our initial Minis drop, we wanted to bring fans an even bigger, mini surprise,” said Mindy Murray, senior marketing communications manager.

Cereal—For Sleep! 
Post Consumer Brands, Lakeville, Minn., greeted 2023 with Sweet Dreams ready-to-eat cereals. A Blueberry Midnight variety contains flavors of blueberry, lavender and chamomile. A Honey Moonglow variety features notes of honey, vanilla, lavender and chamomile. Both feature whole grains, “a nighttime herbal blend’ and vitamins and minerals including zinc, folic acid and B vitamins to support natural melatonin production, the company says. “More than ever, consumers are looking to embrace acts of self-care, particularly as it relates to bedtime routines and we believe a relaxing bedtime routine is key to a good night’s sleep,” said Logan Sohn, senior brand manager.

New Flavors
Wildway Foods, San Antonio, Texas, said in April that its former Peach Pecan granola has become a permanent flavor in the company’s line (the first such move in five years). In other news this February, it debuted a seasonal offering, a Dark Chocolate Strawberry Granola, which features unsweetened cocoa and naturally dried strawberries.

Wildway specializes in granolas, coconut chips and hot cereals that are grain-free, keto friendly, paleo friendly. Peach Pecan, originally launched as a spring seasonal flavor in 2020. It features 100% dried peaches, pecans, dates, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews and more. Both new granolas carry a suggested retail price of $5.99 per 8oz bag.

Frozen Beverage—As a Cereal!
The ICEE Company, La Vergne, Tenn., partnered with Kellogg to create Kellogg’s ICEE cereal. Inspired by ICEE's best-selling Cherry and Blue Raspberry flavors, officials say the new cereal also utilizes an “innovative ingredient that cools your mouth as you eat, imitating that familiar and refreshing first sip of an ICEE.” Kellogg's ICEE Cereal debuted at retailers nationwide in April, for a suggested retail price of $5.29 for an 8.3oz box and $6.49 for a 13.2oz box. ICEE is a subsidiary of J&J Snack Foods Corp.

Proactive Partnership
Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus, Master P's Broadus Foods, Los Angeles, and Post Consumer Brands, Lakeville, Minn., joined forces to develop Snoop Cereal. Three varieties are scheduled to debut this summer: Fruity Hoopz with Marshmallows, Cinnamon Toasteez, and Frosted Drizzlerz. Snoop Cereal boxes feature games, inspiration and characters such as K-9 team leader Captain Ace, Max, Hercules, Roxy and Mr. Polar Bear. Officials say a portion of each sale will be donated to charities that tackle homelessness and food insecurity.

Bar—Now a Breakfast
Kellogg Company, Battle Creek, Mich., has extended its popular RXBAR brand (“No B.S.”) into a new line of three sweet, salty and crunchy granola cereals: Original, Peanut Butter and Chocolate. Each RXBAR Protein Granola has distinctive, simple ingredients and 10g protein per serving. Officials say the Original and Chocolate varieties each includes four tablespoons of oats, two egg whites, one date and 14 almonds. Peanut Butter has the same ingredients except 20 peanuts instead of almonds. "Fans of RXBAR trust us for our no B.S. approach to snacking and new RXBAR Granola delivers on just that," said Eileen Flaherty, RXBAR senior brand manager.
