Impossible Foods Unveils Impossible Ranch

Impossible Ranch contextualizes the farm-based roots of Impossible meat from plants and reinforces the products’ positive impact on planetary health

On Earth Day, Impossible Foods offered a first look at the new Impossible Ranch. The ranch represents a long-term commitment from Impossible to transition a traditional cattle ranch to “make meat the new way” – from plants. Located in South Carolina on 70 acres of farmland, the project involves rescuing cattle and repurposing the land to grow the same crops used to make Impossible’s award-winning, better-for-the-planet meat from plants.

Over the duration of the project, Impossible will invest in growing and harvesting crops such as soybeans, sunflowers and coconut trees, all of which represent key ingredients in Impossible’s beef, chicken and pork products. Impossible will share the daily goings-on of Impossible Ranch with the brand’s social media community, offering a visual and wholesome connection between the simplicity of these ingredients and the farm-based roots of making Impossible meat from plants.

In refocusing the land on plants, Impossible Ranch will also serve as a safe haven for cattle on the property. To celebrate the occasion, Impossible is inviting its fans to share suggestions to name the cattle living on the ranch –– six cows, two steers and one calf –– whom they can continue to follow along with on Impossible’s social media channels.

On Earth Day, Impossible is also taking over the Oculus Transportation Hub in Manhattan to virtually transport busy commuters to the idyllic scenes of Impossible Ranch. This will unlock imagination during an otherwise routine day, inviting commuters to envision a future in which meat is made from plants and cattle can peacefully exist – putting in perspective the impact that food choices can have on animals and the planet.

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 70-acre property previously operated as a cattle ranch for decades. In making the transition from cattle ranching to crop farming, Impossible intends to honor the heritage of the ranch while promoting a renewed focus on animal welfare, working in partnership with the family that tended the land for generations.

Alternative Proteins Take Animal-Free to New Heights

Current trends and future looks plant-based ingredients and alternative proteins

At Innova Market Insights, we’ve monitored trends for many years, and “plant-based” ranks as one of the most fascinating.

It first caught our attention several years ago, when we spotted the term “plant-based” nibbling at the edges of the historically staid vegetarian and vegan product subcategories. Today, it’s hard to keep up with the dramatic evolution of protein ingredients that fall under the umbrella of plant-based. This includes the growing numbers of ingredients that are not even based on plants. Here’s a brief look at current trends that help define movement in plant-based ingredients, followed by predictions for the future of alternative proteins.

Beyond IV Debuts at Grocery Stores Across US

Fourth generation of the Beyond Burger® and Beyond Beef® contain 21g per serving, and have 2g of saturated fat derived from avocado oil

Beyond Meat, Inc. announced the launch of the fourth generation Beyond Burger® and Beyond Beef®, the most significant renovation in the company’s history, at grocery stores nationwide. The new Beyond Burger and Beyond Beef are an excellent source of protein – 21g per serving – and have just 2g of saturated fat derived from avocado oil, with no cholesterol or added antibiotics or hormones. The products’ meatier flavor and taste were preferred over the previous version in consumer testing, and feedback on the new burger overall has been overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, at a recent conference of registered dietitians, 94% of attendees said they enjoyed the taste of the new Beyond Burger, viewed it as healthful, and would recommend it.

Some of the key changes in the new Beyond Burger & Beyond Beef:

- Made with avocado oil: beloved by the nutrition community for its high levels of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats3, the shift to avocado oil helped reduce the saturated fat in the products by 60% to just 2g per serving (75% less than 80/20 beef)
- Avocado oil’s smoother, more neutral flavor also allowed Beyond Meat to unlock an even meatier, beefy flavor, and because avocado oil has a higher smoke point, the new beef is designed to sizzle and BBQ even better than before
- Increased protein to 21g per serving
- Added nutrient-dense plant-based ingredients including red lentil and faba bean protein
- Simplified the ingredient list, including removing coconut and canola oils
- 20% less sodium vs. the previous version
