Amano Enzyme, Inc. will co-host the second biannual North America–Japan Enzyme Technology Symposium with the University of Minnesota Biotechnology Institute on September 22, 2025, in Minneapolis.

The symposium, entitled, “Advancing Biocatalysis: Protein Engineering and Synthetic Biology for Industrial Impact,” will bring together leading experts from North America and Japan to showcase the latest advancements in enzyme research and discuss future directions for the role of enzymes in sustainable innovation.

“We are proud to co-host the 2nd North America–Japan Enzyme Technology Symposium, an event that provides a unique opportunity to exchange developments, ideas and recent findings between Japan and North America,” said Ken Nishimatsu, president, Amano Enzyme USA, Co., Ltd., the US subsidiary of Amano Enzyme. “A variety of research topics will be presented, including the latest innovations in protein engineering, synthetic biology approaches, AI-driven enzyme discovery, and more.”

The symposium will include a variety of sessions and networking opportunities including:

• Scientific presentations covering the latest enzyme advancements, including a keynote from the General Manager of Frontier Research Department at Amano Enzyme

• Flash talks followed by poster session for students to showcase cutting-edge research

In-person attendees can network and learn more about the latest academic research during poster session. For those who can’t attend in person, the event’s presentations will also be streamed live.

Performance expansion of industrial specialty enzymes

Satoru Ishihara, Ph.D., General Manager of Frontier Research Department at Amano Enzyme will present on the performance expansion of industrial specialty enzymes at 9:30 a.m. The presentation will describe how naturally-derived enzymes have been improved using several protein engineering methods, including rational design, directed evolution and machine learning-assisted approaches.

“This event demonstrates Amano Enzyme’s continued commitment to advancing enzyme research and fostering scientific exchange,” added Nishimatsu. “We look forward to expanding partnerships and sharing the collaborative knowledge with our partners around the globe.”
