Maltodextrin Market: Global Industry Analysis

Food manufacturers search for low-calorie ingredients

Consumer awareness on the benefits of eating healthy food has prompted manufacturers to look for low-calorie ingredients, and maltodextrin has emerged as a suitable alternative.

Food and beverage industry accounts for the bulk of the demand for maltodextrin. According to FMI analysis, this segment held nearly 60% of share in terms of market value in 2014. The food and beverage segment of maltodextrin market is anticipated to amplify at a CAGR of 5.3% through 2020.

North America is the most lucrative region for maltodextrin market. It held a market share of over 35% in 2014. FMI estimates it to expand at a CAGR of 4.9% through 2020. Bulk of the demand for maltodextrin in North America came from the food and beverages sector; FMI estimates this sector to expand at a CAGR of 5.1% through 2020.

The Western Europe maltodextrin market is driven by robust demand from the food encapsulation industry. Maltodextrin is used for spray drying the encapsulation during processing. The paints, pesticides, and cosmetics industry is also contributing to the demand for maltodextrin in Western Europe. FMI estimates the Western Europe maltodextrin market to amplify at a CAGR of 5.1% through 2020 and reach a valuation of $861.6 million.

Use of maltodextrin in milk powder, infant food, soft drink, and nutritional beverages is fuelling the maltodextrin market in Asia Pacific. FMI estimates the Asia Pacific maltodextrin market to expand at a CAGR of 5.5% through 2020 and reach a valuation of US$ 680 Mn.
