Vibrant Ingredients recently announced the grand opening of its 11,000sq-ft Innovation Center in Cranbury, NJ, The new state-of-the-art facility marks a significant investment in innovation, collaboration and customer partnership.

The Innovation Center is designed to bring customers and technical experts together in a hands-on environment to accelerate product development through rapid prototyping, technical collaboration, and turnkey solutions for beverage and food applications across retail and foodservice.

In order to learn more about this new facility, Prepared Foods reached out to Vince Macciocchi, CEO of Vibrant Ingredients.

Prepared Foods: What was the original impetus for creating this innovation center?

Vince Macciocchi: This innovation center represents the future of how we partner with customers.

As consumer expectations continue to evolve, speed, collaboration, and technical agility have become more important than ever. We wanted to create an environment where customers could work side-by-side with our teams, move from idea to prototype faster, and ultimately accelerate the path from concept to market.

The center was designed to bring together formulation expertise, application development, processing capabilities, and customer collaboration under one roof. It's a place where ideas can be explored, tested, refined, and advanced in real time.

At Vibrant Ingredients, we view innovation as a collaborative process. Our role is not simply to supply ingredients. It's to help customers solve challenges, identify opportunities, and develop differentiated food and beverage systems that meet evolving consumer needs. This facility is a direct investment in that philosophy and reflects our commitment to being a true innovation partner for our customers.

At the end of the day, innovation only matters if it helps our customers win in the marketplace. This center was built to help them do exactly that.

Prepared Foods: Why did you choose a New Jersey location?

Vince Macciocchi: Cranbury, NJ, places us at the center of one of the most dynamic food and beverage innovation corridors in North America.

Many of the industry's leading brands, R&D teams, and innovation partners are located throughout the Northeast, making this an ideal location for collaboration. Proximity matters when you're trying to accelerate development cycles, bring teams together, and move quickly from concept to market.

Just as importantly, the new facility gives us room to grow. We designed this center not for where we are today, but for where we believe the industry is heading. It provides the flexibility to expand capabilities, introduce new technologies, and continue investing in the resources our customers will need in the years ahead.

This is more than a new location. It's a strategic investment in our future growth and our ability to help customers innovate faster and respond to changing consumer demands.

Prepared Foods: What were your “must haves” in terms of the innovation center’s capabilities?

Vince Macciocchi: Our vision was to create a center that mirrors the way our customers innovate.

Flexibility was essential. Customers today are developing products across multiple categories, processing conditions, and consumer occasions, so we needed capabilities that would allow us to move seamlessly between concepts and applications.

The facility includes advanced beverage development capabilities such as HTST/UHT processing, carbonation, emulsions, and inline homogenization, enabling us to evaluate products under real-world conditions. Equally important, we designed the space to foster collaboration, giving customers direct access to our scientists, flavorists, application specialists, and commercialization teams.

Another priority was scalability. We wanted customers to have confidence that concepts developed in Cranbury can successfully transition toward commercialization and full-scale production. Every investment we made was guided by the question: How can we help customers innovate faster, reduce complexity, and increase confidence in the development process?

Just as importantly, we wanted a facility capable of supporting both individual ingredients and complete food and beverage systems. That's where we believe we can create the greatest value for customers by helping them bring differentiated products to market more efficiently.

Prepared Foods: How can the innovation center speed commercialization of a new R&D concept?

Vince Macciocchi: The greatest advantage is the ability to compress development timelines through collaboration and rapid iteration.

Traditionally, product development can involve multiple rounds of samples, feedback, revisions, and testing that stretch across weeks or even months. The innovation center allows much of that work to happen together and in real time.

Customers can work directly with our teams, evaluate concepts on-site, adjust immediately, and leave with meaningful progress already achieved. That level of interaction helps eliminate delays, accelerate decision-making, and create greater alignment throughout the development process.

What makes the experience even more valuable is the breadth of expertise available. Customers gain access to specialists across flavors, extracts, botanicals, coffee, tea, functionality, applications, processing, and commercialization, allowing us to solve challenges holistically rather than one component at a time.

Ultimately, the center helps customers move faster from concept to market, reduce risk, and develop products that are aligned with both their business objectives and evolving consumer preferences.

Prepared Foods: How can this new innovation center help showcase the broad capabilities of Vibrant Ingredients?

Vince Macciocchi: The innovation center brings the full Vibrant Ingredients platform to life.

Customers often know us for a specific capability, whether that's flavors, coffee, tea, botanicals, preservation systems, or functional ingredients, but our true strength comes from how these capabilities work together.

The center creates an environment where customers can experience complete solutions rather than individual ingredients. They can see how flavor, functionality, processing, application expertise, and our differentiated portfolio combine to solve real business challenges and create meaningful consumer experiences.

Whether we're working on beverages, bakery, savory products, snacks, foodservice applications, or emerging categories, the goal is the same: helping customers transform great ideas into successful commercial products that resonate with consumers.

The innovation center demonstrates what's possible when you combine scientific expertise, technical capabilities, a broad portfolio of ingredient and system solutions, and a customer-first approach under one roof.

Prepared Foods: Can you provide some history and context on how Vibrant Ingredients came about?

Vince Macciocchi: Vibrant Ingredients was built around a simple belief: the future of food and beverage innovation requires a broader, more integrated approach.

Today, customers are looking for partners that can help them navigate increasingly complex challenges, from flavor and functionality to clean label formulation, processing, speed to market, and changing consumer expectations. Our business has evolved to meet those needs.

We have assembled a differentiated portfolio of ingredient technologies, food and beverage systems, technical expertise, and manufacturing capabilities that allow us to support customers across a wide range of applications and categories. More importantly, we've built an organization centered on collaboration, innovation, and customer success.

The launch of Vibrant Ingredients reflects who we are today and where we're headed. We are focused on helping customers create the next generation of food and beverage experiences by combining science, creativity, and technical expertise in ways that deliver meaningful results for both our customers and the consumers they serve.

The Cranbury Innovation Center is a natural extension of that vision. It represents our continued investment in innovation, our customers, and our ability to help bring the next generation of products from concept to market.
