Surveying New Functional Foods & Beverages Debuting in February 2021

Prepared Foods showcases a functional coffee blend, probiotic yogurts and drinks, and functional infused waters.

 

Better Beverages

Laird Superfood, Inc., Sisters, Ore., closed 2020 with several new products including Boost Coffee, a functional coffee blend; and ACTIVATE Prebiotic Daily Greens.

Officials say Boost Coffee blend is made Laird Superfood Medium Roast coffee beans, functional mushroom extracts from Red Reishi and Maitake, olive leaf extract, and Agaricus mushroom powder. Each 12oz serving has 15% of recommended daily vitamin D needs when prepared using a wire filter. Laird Superfood’s Boost Coffee is priced at $17.95 for a 12oz bag.

New ACTIVATE Prebiotic Daily Greens features a blend of 18 ingredients including fruits and vegetables with naturally occurring polyphenols and prebiotic dietary fiber that naturally support the gut. Functional Mushrooms and Shilajit round out this superfood blend. Officials say each serving of the Prebiotic Daily Greens has the equivalent of 14 kale leaves, four spinach leaves, one broccoli floret, and five blueberries.

 

Immune Help

Chobani Probiotic Line

An estimated 60% of consumers say that supporting their immune system will continue to be important after COVID-192. That’s why Chobani LLC, Norwich, N.Y., has introduced new full portfolio of probiotic yogurts and drinks, kids pouches and shakes, and non-dairy functional beverages with immunity-supporting probiotics.

Chobani Probiotic yogurt cups are available in Blueberry, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Peach at a suggested retail price of $1.49 per 5.3oz cup. Chobani Probiotic yogurt-based drinks are available in Raspberry Acai, Blueberry Pomegranate, and Passion Orange Guava at a suggested retail price of $5.49 per six-pack (each 4 fl oz).

Little Chobani Probiotic products are available in 4 fl oz drinks (six-pack) in Strawberry and Cookies & Cream. Little Chobani Probiotic 3.5oz pouches (four-pack) are available in Strawberry Banana, Mixed Berry, and Strawberry & Grape. Each is listed at a suggested retail price of $4.49 per pack.

 

Personal Nutrition

Ocean Spray Cranberries B1U Water

Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., Lakeville-Middleboro, Mass., introduced B1U, a new beverage line featuring on-trend functional benefits, simple ingredients, easy-to-understand nutrition, and recyclable packaging.

The B1U brand of functional infused waters features four flavors with no sugar or artificial sweeteners:

I need a boost: Watermelon Cucumber Infused Water with 60 mg of black tea caffeine;
I need rhythm: Strawberry Basil Infused Water with 8g of plant-based fiber;
I need immunity: Lemon Chamomile Infused Water with 22mg of zinc and 128mg of vitamin C;
I need power: Peach Kiwi Infused Water with 10g of protein.

B1U debuted at select Target stores and rolled out to select Walmart stores in December. B1U is available in 16oz fully recyclable bottles.
