Profiling New Retail Packaged Meat, Poultry & Seafood Offerings

This month's collection includes lobster & shrimp bites and ready-to-eat tuna salad bowls

Prepared Foods showcases new prepared meat, poultry and seafood items for snacks as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

 

Popular Pairing

SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Company, St. Simons Island, Ga., introduced wild caught SeaPak Lobster & Shrimp Bites. Officials describe the new offering as a “perfectly balanced, lightly breaded combination pairs seafood’s hint of sweetness with a mixture of savory cheese and shallots for the ideal bite.”

“Lobster is one of the most popular shellfish items on U.S. restaurant menus,” said Kristen Beadon, SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Co.’s director of marketing. “So we’re excited to be able to offer a quick and easy lobster option that can fit nicely into any budget or schedule.”

Available in 14oz packages, each serving of SeaPak Lobster & Shrimp Bites contains 10g of protein, the company says. Bites can be prepared in a conventional oven, a toaster oven or an air fryer.

Better Bites

Brave Good Kind Tender Chicken Bites

K2 Ventures, Boston, is a March 2021 start-up that introduced Brave Good Kind all-natural Tender Chicken Bites as its first product. 

“Brave Good Kind was born to re-imagine healthy snacking, focusing on the meat snacks category with an offering that is tender, all-natural and made with chicken; it’s a flavorful and delectable treat that the whole family can enjoy,” said Prabal Chaudhri, president and founder of K2 Ventures. “In our research, we found that more than 33% of millennial women are jerky consumers, however, the category doesn’t understand what women and their families really expect from a jerky. We know consumers want a jerky that is easy to eat, and are looking for a tenderly delicious snack without un-sustained sugary spikes of energy from guilt-inducing ingredients. We also addressed the desire for a more sustainable protein source, as chicken has 90% less of a carbon footprint than beef.”  

With three flavors—Original, Teriyaki and Hot Honey—Brave Good Kind Tender Chicken Bites are made with antibiotic-free chicken and spices.  Each bag of Brave Good Kind Tender Chicken Bites delivers 9-10g protein, 5-7g carbs, and less than 6g sugar per serving. They are available for purchase on Amazon and the Brave Good Kind website in a 10-pack bundle of 2.5oz bags for $59.99, or a six-pack variety bundle of 2.5oz bags for $39.99.

 

Breakfast Sausage

Niman Ranch Breakfast Sausage

The continued popularity of homemade breakfasts in 2021 isn’t likely to slow down. According to Mintel, 62% of consumers are making more breakfasts from scratch due to COVID and experts anticipate these new habits will stick. And a recent report from sales and marketing agency Acosta found that even after the Covid pandemic has passed, 47% of U.S consumers plan to eat breakfast out less often.

Considering these trends was Niman Ranch, Westminster, Colo., which expanded its breakfast sausage line with two new offerings. One is an Applewood Smoked Bacon Breakfast Sausage made with Niman Ranch’s artisanal uncured bacon. For those with more of a sweet tooth, Niman Ranch also rolled out Vermont Maple links, billed as “the perfect partner for any stack of pancakes.” 

The savory breakfast sausages are convenient and cook in just five minutes. The full line of Niman Ranch breakfast sausages, including their classic Pork, and Apple Cinnamon varieties, is available nationwide at select specialty grocers.

 

Bistro Favorites

Land O'Frost Bistro Favorites

Land O’Frost, Inc., Munster, Ind., introduced a brand re-design and three new flavors for its Bistro Favorites deli meat brand.

Officials say the new design includes a uniquely crafted, hand-drawn Bistro Favorites logo to evoke a modern bistro; while life-like ingredient and sandwich imagery provide inspiration and a reminder of the brand’s unique, handcrafted offerings. Bistro Favorites also added three new small batch, artisan flavors to its line-up: Maple Bourbon Uncured Ham, Cajun Style Turkey Breast and Savory Herb Turkey. 

“Bistro Favorites has long been a leader in delivering deli meats that elevate quality and provide incomparable flavor,” says Candace M. Cage, brand manager at Land O’Frost. “As a result of the pandemic, there’s been a noticeable shift in the eating patterns of Gen Z and Millennial consumers who are dining out less and less and preparing the majority of their meals at home. Through our research, we’ve learned there’s a segment of these consumers who make purchases driven by product quality and flavor experiences. With the redesign and addition of the new flavors, we are leaning on our ability to engage these shoppers and ensuring we continue to provide artisanal, quality products that they will love.”

Aidells Smoked Beef Sausage

Tyson Foods expanded its Aidells artisanal meats line with new Smoked Beef Sausage and Pork and Beef Meatballs. 

"Aidells has always embraced the unexpected, and we're continuing to deliver on that promise with two new delicious protein offerings inspired by artisanal flavors that are sure to spice up any dining occasion," said Jeremy Kross, Aidells brand manager. "Whether you enjoy them on the grill, or as part of your favorite weeknight dish, both varieties allow you to have delicious meals that elevate beyond the ordinary."

New fully cooked Cotija Cheese & Fire-Roasted Poblano Smoked Beef Sausage Links feature 100% smoked beef sausage with flavors of cotija cheese and fire-roasted poblano. The brand’s new Fire-Roasted Tomato & Romano Cheese Meatballs have an Italian-inspired combination of quality meat, cheese, and bold spices. Both new items deliver more than 10g grams of protein per serving.

 

RTE Tuna Salad Bowls

Wild Planet Foods Wild Tuna Pasta Salad

Canned seafood processor Wild Planet Foods, McKinleyville, Calif., introduced Wild Planet Ready-to-Eat Tuna Salad Bowls in three varieties.

Officials each contains a blend of wild skipjack tuna (the species of tuna with the lowest levels of mercury) and organic, non-GMO vegetables, pasta and legumes. Wild Planet Ready-to-Eat Tuna Salad Bowls come in 5.6oz bowls in three recipes: Wild Tuna Pasta Salad with organic red peppers, tomatoes and green olives; Wild Tuna White Bean Salad with organic chickpeas, carrots, red peppers and green olives; and Wild Tuna, Bean & Corn Salad with organic sweetcorn, red peppers and carrots.
