With the erosion of three squares a day and without a clear distinction between light meals and heavy snacks, the percent of US adults who agree that breakfast is the most important meal a day has notched down somewhat from 57% in 2007 to 52% in 2017, according to data published in Breakfast and Breakfast Foods All Day: Culinary Trend Tracking Series. Even so, breakfast still beats the pancakes out of lunch (18%) or dinner (19%) by this measure.

DSM, the global health, nutrition and materials company, today published the first part of a new report in its Global Insight Series, focused on breakfast habits and behavior in Europe and the US. The report, drawn from a survey conducted in seven countries, shows that breakfast is a meal under pressure. Around a quarter of respondents say they spend just five minutes to prepare and consume breakfast each week day. Even so, an overwhelming majority of consumers say they want this meal to be a healthy one.
Comparatively, the men and women of the 45-65 age group are healthier and more active than when their parents were the same age. While this is good news, they also are beset in record numbers by unfortunate health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and heart disease. To help resolve this dichotomy, nutrition experts recommend eating more nutrient-rich food and beverage products to help fill the gap. Enjoying better foods and beverages can allow many Boomers and X-ers to live longer, happier, and healthier lives.
