A dozen years ago, LycoRed Natural Products Industries Ltd. began a project to develop, through conventional breeding, tomatoes with two to three times the lycopene content of regular tomatoes. A patented process was then developed to separate tomato pulp from the serum, increasing the lycopene concentration 10-fold.
The standardized tomato oleoresin, LYC-O-MATO®, contains a high concentration of lycopene, partially dissolved and mostly dispersed in tomato oil, as well as phytoene, phytofluene, beta carotene, tocopherols and phytosterols. LycoRed can be used as a food fortifier.
